Canadian woman killed in Mexico after whale lands on tourist boat

TORONTO – A Canadian woman has died in Mexico after a gray whale landed on a tourist boat Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.

The whale crashed into the boat off the coast of Cabo San Lucas killing the 45-year-old woman.

Firefighter commander Juan Carvajal Figueroa told the AP the woman was in a boat with several tourists returning to port around noon Wednesday when the whale jumped from the water and landed on the boat.

Mexican navy personnel responded to the incident and took the woman to a clinic, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The woman’s name and hometown have not been released.

Global News has reached out to the Department of Foreign Affairs for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
